At Beyond Ethical, sustainability is not just about the fabrics we use it is about the
futures we help shape.
In the quiet village of Yelachatti, nestled between the lush landscapes of the
Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Chamarajanagar district, we saw more than just nature
and agriculture — we saw potential. But that potential, especially among young
children, often goes unrealized due to a lack of basic educational resources. That
is why we stepped in to sponsor school uniforms and books for children in the
village — a small gesture, but one that carries deep impact.
Encouraging Education, One Student at a Time
Uniforms might seem simple, but in many rural Indian communities, they symbolise
belonging and pride. For some families, the cost of a uniform or a set of textbooks
can be a reason to keep children out of school. By providing uniforms and essential
study materials, we aimed to remove these barriers and encourage regular school
attendance making education more accessible and dignified.
India’s Rural Education Reality
While India has made remarkable progress in expanding access to education, rural
areas still face deep challenges:
• Infrastructure Gaps: Many rural schools lack proper classrooms, toilets, or
even consistent electricity.
• Dropout Rates: According to reports, dropout rates spike in secondary
schooling, especially among girls.
• Teacher Shortages: A lack of trained educators in remote areas affects the
quality of education.
• Economic Pressures: Children in farming families are often pulled out of
school to help at home or in the fields.
For families living near protected forests or agricultural belts like Bandipur,
education often takes a back seat to daily survival and generational cycles of
subsistence farming.
Building Bonds with Farmers — For a Better Future
As a brand working closely with farming communities for our natural fabrics, we’ve
always believed in growing together ethically and mindfully. During our interactions
with farmers around our sourcing regions near Bandipur, we didn’t just talk cotton
and crops. We listened. We learned about their dreams for their children. And again
and again, education came up as their biggest hope.
That’s why, beyond the donations, we’ve begun conversations with farmers around
the importance of modern education — how it can open doors for their children,
introduce better farming techniques, and even help preserve traditional skills with
new knowledge. We're not just suppliers or buyers — we are community
partners.
Our Commitment to Holistic Growth
Sustainable fashion can’t be sustainable if it doesn’t support the communities
behind it. We believe in creating long-term change — not just through eco-friendly
fabrics and handmade clothing, but by helping build educated, empowered
communities.
What started as an initiative to donate uniforms and books is just the beginning. In
the coming months and years, Beyond Ethical is committed to expanding our role
in rural education — through continued support, deeper engagement, and
hopefully, even more meaningful impact.
